Back in 1991 when Tim Berners-Lee was busily inventing the World Wide Web to help his fellow researchers find information he could have had no idea of the astonishing rich mix of video, shopping, sales sites, gaming and so on that would spread around the world.
Or of search engines. People look at me when I talk about the time before Google as if I am talking about the time before Christ. But Google was only invented in 1996 and back then we all had our home pages set at Yahoo.com!
Now we have a powerful search engine that gets thousands of results and we do not know which of them to trust; we have thousands of review sites giving advice and we do not know which of them to trust; and so many resources spread between text documents, mp3s and videos that we are in serious information overload.
Rob Anderson says this points to a hole in the Internet!
What is missing is trust or to put it in another way what is missing is authority. We try to plug the hole by even more searching for community feedback and recommendations but the Social Networking sites are struggling too.
Anderson saw the hole in the Internet as far back as 2000 and has been building a new type of site to plug the hole which he calls an “Authority Community”. There are authority websites already which give authoritative answers and information like Wikipedia, but who the heck wants to read Wikipedia?
We want answers and we want them from people we trust – Anderson is right we needed an authority community and we almost have one now. After years of development his dream is coming true, his Company Community Enabler is launching “Cagora” .
The reason I am covering this here is not just because it is interesting and important but because they have an affiliate program we can use to earn a great deal – the best part of which in my view is that there is an element of passive income in the plan.
