Domaining: domain names as a business
“What’s in a name?” you ask … the answer seems to be an awfully large amount of money.
And that means that it is a genuine business model to buy and sell domain names. Some of this is no doubt vanity; it is the equivalent of buying a vanity car registration plate and some of it is simply knowing how people search the internet for what they want.
It surprises many that people search by typing their keyword into the address bar of their browser rather than putting it into the search box.
The B.B.C. today report on their website that the domain name toys.com was sold for over $5 Million !
It is obvious that the search volumes and earning potential from some simple domain names drives their value ever higher.
Domaining can be the result of individuals spotting a good idea and holding on to it for a few years or can be an company who specialise in these deals using specialist software to search for domains to buy.
