Blogs
Bloggers are a breed apart. They are an opinionated bunch, expressive too. With an abundance of attitude they are generally not prone to bowing to reality.
The reality here is that it is the mailing list of an Internet Business that generates most of it’s revenue rather than other sources of income such as selling advertising space on the blog.
Which has been the principal revenue stream in blogging.
Over the last year however, subscription boxes have become more common on blogs showing that bloggers are increasingly interested in building an email list.
After all advertisers are a fickle bunch. Read more on Bloggers and List Building…

After upgrading two WordPress blogs to the latest all singing, all dancing version 2.7 with a swishy new Dashboard I had a bunch of “broken videos” .
These are videos – mostly YouTube videos, that worked fine but did not after the upgrade…
Which is why zillions of people do not upgrade their blogs – too scary to face the fall out. A bit like putting a bookshelf up in your room and the roof falls in!
Just a few broken video here no other problem!
The solution is obvious – just pop a video plugin into the sidebar and all done…
er…no. It didn’t happen! I tried various video plugins to no avail
From memory, that O so reliable record of events, I tried Vipers video quicktags, All In One Video Pack, Daikos video widget….
At the same time I was wondering if the text editor was getting in the way and was also trying out what happens when you alter text editors too.
What happens is CONFUSION!
I am a scientist – a Physicist, and here I am changing two variables at a time ( O please don’t tell on me!)
Way after the day should have ended I tweeted about this…
lo and behold ( as they say in Church) an answer came!
Out of the TweetoSphere ( Thanks Josh) came this link to a plugin…
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/smart-youtube/
Being a clever guy I had actually tried this one and failed. What I had not done was read the instructions.
Because this was very late I was too tired to be clever so I just read and followed the instructions and it seemed not to work again.
Overnight magical things can happen. ( Ask any child)
Smart YouTube worked perfectly!
This is how to do it…
Start with the URL from YouTube of the video you want to pop in your blog. Copy the URL – not the embed code, the URL and paste it into your blog in the same way you would put a famous quote, for example.
Here is a video I wanted to show
Vladimir Prelovac the plugin coder warns us not to make the URL into a link – paste it in and don’t hit the return key
Then put a v into the URL so that it becomes
httpv://www.etc etc
Voila! You now have a video on your blog
Reminds me of a quote from a friend of mine, “If all else fails- read the instructions!”
