Blog Carnivals Network Your Blog
We’ve gone over quite a few methods of traffic generation during the last few posts. Traffic, meaning people, is what Internet Business is all about. And people are in forums reading and asking questions, in Twitter – well tweeting and of course commenting in and following their favourite blogs.
And bloggers read each other’s blogs and often act as guest writer in each other’s blogs.
An extension of this is the Blog Carnival.
Blog carnivals are regular, often weekly group blogging events. They’ve been compared to magazines and to trade conventions.
Each of the bloggers participating submits a link to one of their blog posts to a central blog hosting the carnival.
Here’s an example http://www.festivaloffrugality.com/festival-164-single-awareness.htm
Some Carnivals are hosted on the same blog and others rotate from the blog of one contributing author to another. The organisation of the event depends on the preferences of those involved – you’ll find a lot of variety.
In case you are wondering what the point is of getting together with others in a group publishing event – well in one word – exposure. Many people who are not at present your readers will be able to read your post and if they like it will of course come back for more.
That’s the theory!
In practice what you have to do is write a post you are
proud of and decide to include it in a blog carnival.
You could just Google for a blog carnival but it is simpler to go to http://blogcarnival.com and if you want to take part then have a look at this page http://blogcarnival.com/bc/clist.html where you can select a category and choose which Carnival to join.
After that it’s just filling in a form…
To get the most out of the Carnival:
- check the article carefully
- check other posts on the blog and fix any broken links or anything not at it’s best ( there’s guests a’ coming!)
- record your stats carefully. WordPress blogs have various stats plugins available ( Shortstats is our fave!) so make sure you measure the effect on your traffic of the Carnival.
- then if it’s worked just “rinse ‘n repeat!”
See you at the Carnival!
